“Daily Show” host Jon Stewart went back nearly 250 years to check on President Donald Trump after the weekend’s nationwide “No Kings” demonstrations to see if the protesters had a point.
“It’s starting to feel like there might be something to this whole king thing,” he said, then went to “the source” for the “No Kings” movement: The Declaration of Independence and its 27 grievances against King George III.
“All right, the Declaration says, ‘He has kept among us in times of peace, standing armies without the consent of our legislatures,’” Stewart read. “Done.”
As he spoke, headlines about Trump’s use of the National Guard in U.S. cities appeared.
“‘Cutting off our trade with all parts of the world,’” Stewart continued. “Ooooh. That does sound familiar.”
