Congress MLA S. Rajakumar allegedly assaulted a traffic policeman in uniform on Saturday.
The traffic policeman, Prabhakaran, was on duty regulating traffic in front of Spencer Plaza on Anna Salai, when he found a vehicle parked in a way that obstructed traffic, the police said. It belonged to Mr. Rajakumar, the Congress MLA from Mayiladuthurai constituency. Mr. Prabhakaran ordered the vehicle to be moved, but the MLA and his supporters engaged in an argument with Mr. Prabhakaran, the police said. During the altercation, Mr. Rajakumar allegedly physically assaulted Mr. Prabhakaran.
Upon receiving information, the Deputy Commissioner and Assistant Commissioner went to the spot, reviewed the CCTV footage, and initiated an inquiry.
