Chennai Mayor R. Priya inaugurated 26 new vehicles at Ripon Buildings on Thursday (October 16, 2025). The fleet includes 21 battery-operated vehicles for road maintenance and five dog-catching vehicles.

According to a press release, the 21 battery-operated vehicles were provided by two private banks under their Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) funds.

The Chennai Corporation currently operates 23 dog-catching vehicles. To strengthen measures to control stray dogs, five additional vehicles were procured under the Corporation’s capital fund at a cost of ₹10.43 lakh each, totalling ₹52.17 lakh, the release said. These vehicles will be used for capturing street dogs, administering anti-rabies vaccination, and conducting sterilisation surgeries, the release added.

Deputy Mayor M. Magesh Kumaar, Commissioner J. Kumaragurubaran, senior officials and Council members attended the event.
