Minister for Municipal Administration, Urban and Water Supply K. N. Nehru, on Wednesday, launched three new amphibious excavator machines at the Mambalam Canal near Saidapet, Todd Hunter Nagar, to be deployed by Greater Chennai Corporation (GCC). The machines, valued at ₹7.43 crore, were launched for desilting and cleaning waterbodies.
According to a press release, each unit cost ₹2,47,55,220 and was purchased for the first time by Chennai Corporation. The release said the machines can operate on both water and land and may also be used for earth excavation and levelling works.
