Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin said Friday his recent statement condemning condemning the "unjustifiable" Hamas attacks and the "unacceptable" Israeli response, criticised by Israel as showing "moral equivalence" between the two, had merely been aimed at contributing to the Gaza peace efforts.
"The interview was intended to demonstrate the Holy See's presence and participation in what happened on October 7 and was intended as a call for peace," he said.
"I don't believe there is any moral equivalence between the two situations.
"Where there is violence, there is always something to condemn.
"The aim was to express the desire to put an end to this violence and begin a process of reconciliation.
