A Kadapa Court on Thursday sentenced a 29-year-old man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and imposed a fine of ₹1.7 lakh for killing his wife, following prolonged dowry harassment.

According to Lakkireddypalli police of Annamayya district, the convict, Rauthu Babu (29), hailing from Dinnepalli village in Lakkireddypalli mandal, got married to Rauthu Savitri (21) of the same village. Savitri reportedly faced severe harassment for additional dowry and was later found dead under suspicious circumstances.

Her father lodged a complaint at Lakkireddypalli police station on October 9, 2021. The police booked a case under Sections 498(A), 304(B) of the IPC, and Sections 3 and 4 of the Dowry Prohibition Act. After a detailed investigation, the police filed the charge-sheet in the designated court.

After a thorough trial, Judge G.S. Ramesh Kumar of the VII Additional District Judge Court, Kadapa, found the accused guilty of killing his wife and awarded him seven years of rigorous imprisonment along with a fine of ₹1.7 lakh.

Annamayya Superintendent of Police (SP) Dheeraj Kunubilli congratulated the investigation team, prosecution staff, and court personnel for their coordinated efforts in securing justice for the victim.
