Summit on October 13-14 aims to push ‘global pursuit of gender equality and women’s development’, China’s foreign ministry says
At a press briefing on Thursday, foreign ministry spokesman Guo Jiakun said the meeting, co-hosted by China and UN Women on October 13 to 14, aimed to “create new momentum for global pursuit of gender equality and women’s development, and advance the building of a community with a shared future for mankind”.

He said “dozens” of state leaders, heads of governments, house speakers, vice-premiers and ministerial level officials from a range of countries would attend but did not provide a full list of the attendees.
The 1995 conference was widely regarded as a global turning point for gender equality with the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which set the agenda for women’s empowerment in 12 critical areas.
