The mother of a woman ruthlessly murdered by a Jack the Ripper copycat has celebrated news of her daughter's killer's death, saying: 'I hope he is rotting in hell.' Jackie Summerford has faced 18 years of agony after Derek Brown slaughtered her girl, Bonnie Barrett, in 2007. Brown preyed on the 24-year-old prostitute believing she was a 'soft target' and that nobody would miss her. The previously convicted rapist prowled the streets of London's Whitechapel - the infamous hunting ground of Jack the Ripper in the 1880s - searching for his victims. The former delivery driver lured Ms Barrett to his Rotherhithe flat, where it's believed he hacked the mother-of-one to death before disposing of her remains. Weeks earlier, Chinese mother-of-two Xiao Mei Guo had suffered a similar fate at the hands of Brown - dubbed the 'Modern Ripper'. The remorseless predator was later jailed for a minimum of 30 years on October 6, 2008, for two counts of murder. However, he never revealed where the two women's remains were left - and has now taken this information to the grave with him, after dying in prison last month. Now, Ms Summerford, 65, has celebrated the death of her daughter's killer, telling the Daily Mail: 'You have really made my day. I’m really on a high. I have got what I wanted: him dead.'This is some sort of closure for me. We’re never ever going to know where he put Bonnie. But at least we can move on.'I hope he is rotting in hell, and that he suffered like Xiao Mei and my daughter did when he died.' Jack the Ripper copycat killer Derek Brown has died, aged 64, after being taken to hospital Mother-of-one Bonnie Barrett was just 24 when she was preyed upon by Brown Bonnie's mother, Jackie Summerford, has celebrated news of the death of her daughter's killer During his trial, Brown - who the court heard had sort 'notoriety' by imitating Jack the Ripper's slayings - admitted paying both women for sex before their disappearance in 2007.Mrs Guo, who had two children, was last seen in August 2007 selling DVDs in Whitechapel market. CCTV pictures showed her with Brown by Whitechapel Tube station, a court heard.Ms Barrett disappeared from the same area on September 18, 2007.A search of Brown's Rotherhithe flat found traces of blood belonging to both women, as well as a receipt for a bow saw, heavy-duty gloves, rubble sacks and cleaning materials. It's believed he dismembered his victims before disposing of their remains, either dumping them in the Thames, in an industrial compactor or elsewhere in the city. A grief-stricken Ms Summerford said Brown continued to exert his 'control' on her family from behind bars for years by refusing to tell her where her daughter's remains were. It's meant the 65-year-old has been unable to bury her daughter, with the only tribute to her beloved Bonnie being a small shrine in the garden of her Walworth home. Ms Summerford said: 'It’s been horrible. You see other people online on their "angel day" going to their grave with flowers.'I have had nothing like that. I’ve had no grave at all. I’ve only got my little shrine to Bonnie in my garden. Brown was sentenced to a minimum term of 30 years on October 6 2008 after he was found guilty of murdering Ms Barrett, (left), and DVD seller Xiao Mei Guo (right), 29'He was able to stay in control of us from behind bars. He was sick.'She added: 'If I had just one bone, I would bury it.'Bonnie had a troubled life and had given up care for her son, Roger Moore, when he was a child, with Jackie instead looking after him.At the time Ms Barrett had been addicted to cocaine and was working as a prostitute in London. However, Ms Summerford said in the weeks before her daughter's murder, she had been on the road to recovery. She added the killer had robbed her daughter's son, Roger - who is now 24 - of a chance of having a relationship with his mother.'He took away everything from that boy. Everything,' she told the Daily Mail. The scars of the tragedy run deep in the family; Jackie's ex-husband can't even put up a photo of his daughter, while Bonnie's sister, Kelly Barrett, 45, has struggled to come to terms with her sister's murder.'I just hope Bonnie can finally rest in peace now,' she said. Bonnie's mother said Brown had taken 'everything' away from her grandson, Roger, who had the chance of eventually building a relationship with his mother so cruelly snatched away Kelly Barrett, Bonnie's sister, said she hoped her sibling could finally rest in peace Speaking of the impact her daughter's murder has had on her own life, Ms Summerford added: 'I have never been the same person since she was murdered.'I have gone very in myself. I used to have loads of friends but now I don’t.'I just put my heart into trying to help other people, like knife crime victims. Then I started to get ill. I’ve got COPD (chronic obstructive pulmonary disease) now and can't do as much.'The grieving mother added she had not been informed by the police of Brown's death, finding out instead from the Daily Mail. 'I think that's disgusting,' she added. 'Police or the prison service should have at least told me about it. But at least now I know.' Brown was serving his sentence in HMP Wakefield but is believed to have become unwell on September 27.He was taken to hospital and died two days later at the age of 64 - just days away from his 65th birthday.A source close to former delivery driver Brown said: 'He was in critical care since Saturday.'They found him in his cell on Saturday, and he was in critical care since Saturday 5pm until Monday when he died at 3pm.'Police at the time of the murders believed Brown had sought 'notoriety' for the killings.Detective Chief Inspector Mark Kandiah said: 'If he kept killing prostitutes from the Whitechapel area, then that link (with Jack the Ripper) would be made.'If this was a spree, it seems likely that we stopped him at number two.' Derek Brown is caught on CCTV after slaughtering two women in London in 2007 Prosecutors say he wanted to gain 'notoriety' for his killings, which appeared to copy those of Jack the Ripper (pictured is an artist's impression of the Ripper from the Police Gazette)Speaking during his court case, sentencing Judge Martin Stephens told Brown: 'You have shown not a sliver of remorse.'You murdered two women. Both were vulnerable, plying their trade on the streets, in each case falling into your hands precisely because of their availability and their lack of protection.'What you did to each of those women before you killed them we can only speculate about. How you killed them we cannot know.'What we do know is you disposed of their bodies with frightening efficiency so that not a trace of either woman has been found.'Police spent 800 hours searching for the bodies of Bonnie and DVD seller Xiao Mei Guo, which including trawls of the Thames by specialist divers.Judge Stephens said there was clear 'circumstantial evidence' which proved Brown dismembered and disposed of the bodies.'The only person who could prove this not to be true would be you, if you ever chose to tell the police where their bodies or remains could be found,' the judge added.'The anguish of both victims' families is exacerbated, made much worse by their inability to lay each lady to rest.'The prosecution said Brown targeted the women as they were 'soft targets' and would not be missedSpeaking of his death, a Prison Service spokesman said: 'Derek Brown died in hospital on September 29 while serving a sentence at HMP Wakefield.'As with all deaths in custody, the Prisons and Probation Ombudsman will investigate.'
