A section of members of the Thiruverumbur Train Users Federation staged a nearly hour-long demonstration in front of the Tiruverumbur railway station on Sunday in support of their charter of demands. The federation members urged the railway authorities to halt all express trains running on Tiruchi-Thanjavur broad gauge line in both directions at the station.Located in the outskirts of Tiruchi, Tiruverumbur and the areas in its vicinity have witnessed a tremendous growth over the years with dense population. Travellers from these areas have to board express trains at the Tiruchi Junction.Halt of express trains at Tiruverumbur railway station would make it convenient for a large number of travellers, said federation president S. Sakthivel. The federation has urged the railway authorities to take steps to accommodate all trains on platform 1 instead of the second or third platform for the convenience of the passengers. It also sought a direct passage to the Tiruverumbur railway station from the bus stand by opening a portion of the compound wall constructed by the railways so that travellers carrying luggages can avoid taking a detour of about 1 km. Provision of a canopy and construction of a cement surface at the two-wheeler parking lot at Tiruverumbur station was another demand of the federation. Published - October 05, 2025 06:06 pm IST
