The Land Fraud Investigation Wing of the Central Crime Branch has arrested three persons for fraudulently selling a property in Kilkattalai by misusing the death certificate of an unrelated man with the same name as the property owner (who is alive), and obtaining a legal heir certificate in the name of a woman falsely claiming to be his daughter. The complainant, Subramani, owns a large tract of land in Kilkattalai near Madipakkam. Two of the suspects tracked down another person named Subramani, who died in Gummidipoondi in 2023, and obtained his death certificate. Using it, they secured a legal heir certificate from the Guindy Tahsildar’s office for Priya, who impersonated the daughter and legal heir of Subramani of Kilkattalai.Police sources said the woman had borrowed money from loan sharks, and her husband was an autorickshaw driver in K.K. Nagar. The suspects asked her to appear at a sub-registrar office and sign as a witness to execute a sale agreement. They then executed a sale deed for a 2,530 sq. ft. property in Kilkattalai to a third party. After discovering the fraud, Subramani lodged a complaint with the Central Crime Branch. When the police arrested Priya last week, she directed them to the individuals who had hired her. Based on her confession, the police arrested real estate brokers Balasundram Arumugam, 40, of Jamin Pallavaram, and Solomon Raj, 38, of Vanuvampettai, who were allegedly involved in preparing the forged documents. The police have also launched a hunt for other suspects involved in the crime. Published - October 04, 2025 04:22 pm IST
