Five persons were arrested in two separate murders near Kalasapakkam and Jolarpet towns in Tiruvannamalai and Tirupattur districts over land dispute and illegal affair respectively.Police said that in the first incident, K. Sivakumar,55, and his brother K. Vediappan, 37, were farmers in Pathiyavady village near Kalasapakkam town in Tiruvannamalai. Along with their family, the two brothers cultivate paddy in three-acre farmland each separately.A few years ago, Vediappan sought around one acre from his brother Sivakumar for which he allegedly paid ₹2 lakh as advance amount to Sivakumar. However, Sivakumar delayed in registering the land to his brother and also did not return the advance money to him.On Friday, when B. Manikandan, 30, Sivakumar’s son in-law, was working in the farmland, Vediappan and his son Ashok, 28, objected to it and demanded they return the advance amount. Both of them exchanged blows and in a fit of rage, Manikandan stabbed Ashok, who collapsed.Immediately, family members and neighbours rushed him to Government Medical College Hospital in Tiruvannamalai town where he was declared brought dead. A case was registered by Kalasapakkam police. Manikandan was lodged at Central Prison in Vellore.In the second incident, police said that victim G. Pawan Kumar, 21, a native of Tirupattur, was working in a sweet shop owned by N. Alphonse, 35, the suspect, in Bengaluru for the past few years. Pawan Kumar got acquainted with Satya, 30, Alphose’s wife. Despite Alphose’s warning to discontinue the illegal affair, Kumar continued to chat with his wife.Angered over it, along with his friends, Alphonse hacked Kumar, who came to his native Tirupattur town, to death. Police arrested Alphonse, Bakkiyaraj, 40, Ponnaiah, 37, and Kathir Velan, 41. A probe is underway. Published - October 04, 2025 12:12 am IST
