Keir Starmer and his former clothes supplies Lord Waheed Alli cut a very similar dash at Labour Party conference today when they stepped out in almost identical outfits.The Prime Minister and the peer were the epitome of centrist dad chic in Liverpool with blue jackets, dark t-shirts and dark trousers paired with Adidas sports trainers.Lord Alli cut a low profile as he made his way the conference venue this morning.The former Asos chairman hit the headlines last year after gifting clothes worth thousands to Sir Keir Starmer, his wife Lady Victoria, and senior ministers including Rachel Reeves and Angela Rayner.Earlier Sir Keir and Lady Victoria had posed for pictures nearby, including with a passer-by's dog.He will give a keynote conference address this afternoon that will talk up the threat posed by Reform - which is streets ahead in the polls after a series of debacles including Lord Alli's donations. Sir Keir Starmer last year received several gifts from Alli, the former Asos chairman, including 'multiple pairs of glasses' to the value of £2,485, 'work clothing' worth £16,200 and accommodation worth £20,437.28.They were forced to stop accepting donations to pay for clothes in September 2024 after criticism.Ms Rayner, who has since left government, declared £3,550 worth of clothes donated by Lord Alli.She also updated her register of interests to reflect that the donation received in June 2024 was for 'work clothes for use while undertaking duties'.She originally described it as a 'donation in kind for undertaking parliamentary duties'.Despite the furore, the peer has continued to donate to Labour, with £55,000 for central party funds and an additional £5,000 for former shadow minister Rosina Allin-Khan in 2025, Electoral Commission records show. In October last year Lord Alli was been found to have committed four minor breaches in his own register of interests. A House of Lords commissioner for standards investigation recommended he write a letter of apology for the breaches.'While I consider each individual breach of the Code to be minor, I have found there to be four breaches in total, and have therefore recommended that Lord Alli write a letter of apology to the Chair of the Conduct Committee, Baroness Manningham-Buller,' the report said.Lord Alli correctly registered his trusteeship of The Charlie Parsons Foundation but should have also included his position as an unremunerated director of the foundation.He was also found to have prematurely removed entries relating to his role in Silvergate BP Bidco Limited and to have been late in registering his interest as an unremunerated director of MAC (BVI) Limited.Lord Alli wrote in a letter: 'I am writing to you today to offer my apology for my breach of conduct by not registering my interests correctly.'I will endeavour to keep to the Code of Conduct at all times to avoid such circumstances again.'
