An Only Fools and Horses megafan has splashed out a 'lovely jubbly' £22,720 on Del Boy's tacky cocktail bar, more than 44 times its original asking price. The free-standing wraparound bar on the BBC comedy show between 1981 and 2003 was expected to sell between £500 to £600 at auction but smashed estimates during a 200-people bidding war.Other items up for grabs at last night's Fieldings auction in Stourbridge,West Mids included a 1970's pinstripe suit owned and worn by John Bonham from Led Zeppelin and a guitar signed by David Bowie. The bar was decorated with cream-coloured padded vinyl on the outside and was a regular fixture in the Trotters' flat. Fans of the comedy will remember it for Del's stash of cigars and his pineapple ice bucket on the booze cabinet which featured in most scenes throughout the programme that ran over seven series. The bar was designed by Italian furniture makers Mascagni Mobili, measuring at 107 cm high and 106 cm wide. Director, Will Farmer said both he and the auction winner were ecstatic with the outcome.Farmer said the buyer has already paid for the bar and is driving from Oxford to collect it today. The freestanding wraparound bar, clad in cream-padded vinyl, was a familiar sight in the Trotters' Peckham flat, the place where Del kept his stash of cigars Only Fools and Horses ran on the BBC for seven series between 1981 and 1991, with a further 16 Christmas specials broadcast before the show finally ended in 2003'He's absolutely off the scale delighted.''He's a brilliant guy the new owner. They're absolutely thrilled. He saw it via the media and in his own words he said 'I'm having that',' said Farmer. Farmer admits he feels foolish for the bar selling at such a hefty price. 'It's one of the highest prices, it's the second highest for a piece of Only Fools and Horses memorabilia. I'm going to be living the £500 to £600 estimate down for a few years to come.''It is fair to say I feel a bit of a plonker about that.'It was a closed online-only sale. The whole thing was fought out on the internet. It was a fully contested sale online. We're very thrilled with it,' Farmer said. Fieldings Music and Entertainment Specialist, Rachel Holland said the 20th century pop culture furniture is a rare and fascinating piece. 'It was acquired by the current vendor's father, himself a known actor and producer, on 19th January 1992. Fans of the comedy will remember the bar for being where Del kept his ready supply of cigars inside this prop'The piece was purchased directly from the sitcom's prop coordinator following the studio's relocation from London to Bristol.'It is offered together with a handwritten receipt from the seller reading: 'Bar used on set of Only Fools and Horses, Sold J. Williams 19.1.92, S.P. Haberfield.'This bar is more than just a piece of furniture - it's a slice of British television history.'Only Fools and Horses ran on the BBC for seven series between 1981 and 1991, with a further 16 Christmas specials broadcast before the show finally ended in 2003. The hit comedy followed the fortunes of wheeler-dealer Derek ‘Del Boy’ Trotter and his younger brother Rodney as they tried, and often failed, to make it rich in Peckham.
