Coimbatore reported a per capita income of ₹3.67 lakh in 2022-23, against Tamil Nadu’s average per capita income of ₹2.75 lakh and the national per capita average of ₹2.2 lakh. This puts the emerging city in a unique vantage position, said Sanjay Chugh, City Head & Director, Anarock Property Consultants, Chennai who was moderating a panel discussion on Coimbatore Unlimited 3.0 organised by G Square and The Hindu Group in Bengaluru on Wednesday.K.S. Viswanathan, Strategic Advisor, Global Capability Centre, said, sky was the limit for the city as it was staring at a plethora of opportunities. He said that some 300 to 400 new GCCs were expected to come to small cities in the country and therefore it was important for Coimbatore to be ready with capacity and the right infrastructure and connectivity.M. Balasubramaniam, Director, Mangal Tirth Estate Ltd. and Founding Director Brookfields Estate said that although still not a metro city, Coimbatore had its first mall, set up by him, some 20 years ago.According to Junaith Babu, Chief Operating Officer, G Square Group, traditionally the city is called the southern Manchester of India with its cotton, spinning mills, textile machinery and pumps businesses. It opened its first IT park in 1995 and it has 100 engineering colleges producing over 50,000 graduates annually.The panelists, in unison, opined that to make Coimbatore more attractive to diverse businesses, it must build capacity and focus on talent.
