Sept. 17 (UPI) -- OpenAI released a study examining the demographics of people using its ChatGPT AI model and what they are using it for.

The study released Tuesday, which was not immediately peer-reviewed, found that ChatGPT usage has primarily fallen into three categories: "practical guidance, seeking information and writing."

"We're still learning how people use AI in the wild, but this trend gives us a glimpse into where the value is and how it's shifting," OpenAI Chief Economist Aaron Chatterji said.

One of the most prominent findings was the jump in non-work-related messages, going from 53% in 2024 to 73% as of June.

About 56% of work-related messages were asking the bot to work on certain job tasks.
