A five-day civilian rifle training programme by the Udupi police began on September 15 with 195 participants.

The police stated that 59 applications had been received from the Udupi sub-division, 55 from the Karkala sub-division and as many as 81 from the Kundapur sub-division.

The training for those from the Udupi sub-division was held in Udupi. Training for applicants from the Karkala sub-division was held in Hebri. Training for those from Kundapur sub-division was held in Kundapur.

Udupi Superintendent of Police Hariram Shankar, Deputy SP (DAR) Thimmappa Gowda and Armed Reserve Inspector Ravi Kumar took part in the inauguration of the programme at the Udupi District Armed Reserve (DAR) ground in Udupi.
