If you're considering a switch to a used electric vehicle, now may be the time to act. The federal Used Clean Vehicle Credit, launched in January 2023, is set to expire on Sept. 30 ‒ and it could save eligible buyers up to $4,000 on qualifying electric, plug-in hybrid, or fuel cell vehicles priced at $25,000 or less.

Combined with the tax credit and modest prices, making the jump to an EV now may be a wise decision. "The used EV market has some of the best kind of bargains out there," said Kevin Roberts, director of economic and market intelligence at CarGurus. EVs that were really highly priced just a couple of years ago are now much more affordable, Roberts said.

The credit equals 30% of the sale price up to a maximum of $4,000 for eligible buyers.

CarGurus, which lists more than 4 million new and used cars on its site, analyzed its listings and provided to USA TODAY a curated selection of EVs that qualify for the federal used clean vehicle tax credit and offer the best value.
