The world of sport has been rocked in recent years by allegations of doping, match fixing and other underhand tactics.

A host of big-name professional athletes playing for high-stakes and big prizes have become embroiled in cheating scandals while trying to claim the top prize in lucrative competitions across the world.

However, the latest sport to find itself at the centre of sneaky shenanigans and skulduggery is… stone skimming.

Organisers of The World Stone Skimming Championships (WSSC), which take place on the Hebridean island of Easdale each September, have revealed ‘several’ participants ‘doctored’ stones they used. As a result several were disqualified from the tournament.

The rules of the competition, which was held last Saturday, state that entrants must use ‘naturally formed’ slate from the island and that the stones have to be less than three inches in diameter.
