Bengaluru’s notorious Silk Board junction is set to witness a major traffic relief by December, with Afcons Infrastructure announcing that two additional ramps of the flyover will be completed by then. Once operational, these ramps will allow commuters to bypass the junction entirely, ensuring “absolute zero wait time,” according to D. Murugadasan, Executive Vice President at Afcons.
Afcons, in a release, stated that it is constructing five ramps as part of its metro and road-widening contract. Three ramps of double decker flyover were opened last year, but traffic bottlenecks persisted. The final two ramps, including Ramp D, the tallest at 28 metres and built at the fifth level above existing flyovers and metro lines, are expected to bring substantial relief, the release stated.
“The works form part of the 9.8 km elevated section of the Bengaluru Metro’s Blue Line from Silk Board to KR Puram. Despite construction challenges and limited working hours between midnight and 6 a.m., Afcons has committed to meeting the December deadline,” the release stated.
