On September 8, K. Alamelu would lean over a cake crowded with 92 candles, their gentle flames swaying in the air. Her 92nd birthday celebration would arrive in the midst of a programme in Coonoor. She could not have asked for a better setting for the bash. It would be a programme related to scouts and guides, a movement that has become an inseparable part of her.
The “grand old lady” of Bharat Scouts and Guides, a national scouting and guiding association, is attending a five-day programme in Coonoor from September 5 onwards, as resource person, taking classes for a huge group, one including 80 commissioners (each of them an administrator heading a district) from Tamil Nadu.
