Emilio Fede, a 94-year-old former TV anchorman for late, ex-premier Silvio Berlusconi's Mediaset network, has died at the San Fedele care home at Segrate, near Milan, sources said on Tuesday.

His daughters Simona and Sveva were with him, the sources said.

Fede was a close friend of Berlusconi's and one of his most ardent supporters.

He had a series of legal problems after retiring as a journalist and was convicted of involvement in bringing prostitutes to parties at Berlusconi's home at Arcore, near Milan.

Fede had been in critical condition at the care home for a day.
