Angela Rayner is barred from revealing details of her controversial tax affairs for legal reasons, Downing Street has said.

The Deputy Prime Minister is under mounting pressure to 'come clean' after claims she avoided £40,000 in stamp duty when she purchased a luxury £800,000 apartment in East Sussex.

Tory MPs have demanded a formal investigation into the affair, saying that Ms Rayner may have broken the Ministerial Code.

On Monday, No 10 said the Prime Minister had 'full confidence' in her.

Sir Keir Starmer's spokesman said: 'The Deputy PM's team has set out her position on this. There is a court order that restricts her from providing further information, which she is urgently working on rectifying in the interests of public transparency.'
