Angela Rayner wants to reveal more about her property deals but is constrained by a court order, No10 said today as Keir Starmer came to the aid of his embattled deputy.
The Prime Minister's spokesman said Ms Rayner is 'urgently' working on a way to give more details about her ownership of two homes 'in the interests of public transparency'. The nature of the order is not known.
Ms Rayner is embroiled in a deepening sleaze row over her tax affairs after it was revealed she bought an £800,000 second home on the south coast.
Critics have claimed Ms Rayner avoided £40,000 in stamp duty by telling the taxman that the luxury property in Hove is her main home, while telling the Cabinet Office that her primary residence is her former family home 260 miles away in Greater Manchester.
Sir Keir waded into the row today, telling the BBC the former teen mum is a 'great story of British success'.
