A woman has died after being hit by a 'massive' tree branch that 'snapped' and fell onto her in windy weather.
The woman, in her 40s, died on Barlow Moor Road in West Didsbury, Manchester, when the branch plummeted onto her on Saturday evening, Greater Manchester Police have confirmed.
Emergency services, including paramedics, rushed to the scene at around 7.15pm but were unable to save her.
A staff member at Barlow Moor petrol station said they saw a 'massive branch' snap and fall onto the woman.
'The tree just snapped, it was a big branch and just fell. A woman was walking underneath,' they told Manchester Evening News.
