A homeless man sleeping in a park was killed when a tree branch fell on his tent amid strong winds across Britain today as the country endured 78mph gusts.
The man in his 40s was found with serious head injuries at Revoe Park in Blackpool, Lancashire, shortly before 5am and was pronounced dead at the scene.
A section of the park near a play area was cordoned off with detectives and a private ambulance attending the scene. Police said there were no suspicious circumstances.
It comes as a 26-hour Met Office yellow wind warning covering most of England and Wales will run until 6pm this evening after coming into force at 8pm last night.
Bridges, railway lines, parks and zoos have closed and some 150 properties were left without power in Chagford, Devon, after strong winds spread inland this morning.
