Budget supermarket Lidl is set to create 500 new jobs as part of a £435million investment to expand its operations in London and Leeds.

A new warehouse is being built in the West Yorkshire village of Gildersome, while the retailer has just completed a major upgrade of its Belvedere site.

The £285million redevelopment in the capital involved a new warehouse and the construction of a second building, tripling capacity.

Once fully operational, it is expected to supply 120 stores.

Meanwhile, in Leeds, work has begun on a £150million warehouse which will create around 400 roles.
