Greater Chennai Corporation Council on Tuesday approved resolutions to appoint consulting firms as independent engineers to monitor the privatisation of solid waste management in Royapuram and Thiru-Vi-Ka Nagar Zones (V and VI) and the Integrated Waste Processing Facility (IWPF) components in Kodungaiyur. GCC has advanced both these projects even though they have drawn criticism from various fronts.

The independent engineer contract for monitoring solid waste management operations in Zones V and VI was awarded at ₹95.93 crore. The scope includes overseeing waste collection, supervising transportation to landfill sites and processing facilities, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations, monitoring performance, and providing regular assessments.
