Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Monday (August 25, 2025) inaugurated Chennai Institute of Journalism (CIJ) at Kotturpuram in Chennai. He also visited a studio at the institute and interacted with students of the first batch. The State government had sanctioned a sum of ₹7.75 crore in setting up CIJ under the Companies Act, 2013. The institute is located adjacent to the Anna Centenary Library.
The State government had set up CIJ, which offers a postgraduate diploma programme in journalism, both in Tamil medium and English medium, from the academic year 2025-26. It had appointed former Editor-in-Chief of The Hindu and Director, Kasturi and Sons Limited N. Ravi as CIJ board’s chairperson and former Readers’ Editor of The Hindu A.S. Panneerselvan as CIJ’s director-general. Both of them, along with other members of the board, participated in the inaugural function.
