Aug. 22 (UPI) -- Forecasters were warning swimmers that many U.S. East Coast beaches will remain dangerous for the weekend, as Erin became a post-tropical storm and moved away from the United States.
Erin was located about 605 miles north-northwest of Bermuda and 374 miles south-southwest of Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada, with maximum sustained winds of 90 mph and moving east-northeast at a blistering 33 mph, the National Hurricane Center said in its final update at 5 p.m. EDT.
No coastal warnings or watches were in effect. Hurricane-force winds extend outward up to 125 miles from the center and tropical-force ones up to 435 miles.
A turn back to the northeast was forecast for Sunday.
