A 10-year-old girl was crushed to death when she slipped from a scooter and came under a moving BMTC bus on Kogilu main road at Yelahanka in Bengaluru on August 21.This is the third fatal accident involving a BMTC bus in the last three days.The deceased child, Tanvi Krishna, is a class 5 student. She was going to school on a scooter with her mother, Harshitha, along with her sister. They fell on the road when Harshitha lost control of the two-wheeler. While Harshita sustained minor injuries, Tanvi, who was riding pillion, came under the bus and was crushed to death.The Yelahanka traffic police booked the BMTC driver for death due to negligence and for rash and negligent driving.Statement from BMTCAccording to BMTC, the incident occurred around 8.20 a.m. when a bus belonging to Depot–11 (KA57 F-5375) was operating on the Yelahanka–Shivajinagar route.The girl was riding pillion on a two-wheeler along with her sibling when the rider reportedly lost balance due to roadwork and another parked two-wheeler ahead. CCTV footage revealed that the vehicle skidded and fell towards the rear wheel of the moving bus, resulting in the child’s death. The rider and another child sustained minor injuries.Senior BMTC officials, including the Divisional Controller (North Zone), Divisional Traffic Officers, and Divisional Mechanical Engineer, rushed to the accident spot and conducted a preliminary inquiry. The Yelahanka Traffic Police have registered a case and seized the vehicle for investigation.“The loss of a young life is extremely unfortunate. From the footage, it is clear that the rider lost balance and fell near the bus, a situation where it becomes very difficult for the driver to avert an accident. Passenger and public safety remain our top priority,” a BMTC spokesperson said.Two more casesIn another case, 64-year-old P. Sampangi was killed on August 20 when a BMTC electric bus ran over him while he tried to get into the bus at Jayanagar bus terminal.Sampangi, a daily wage labourer at K.R. market, was going to work when he tried to board the bus. The driver allegedly closed the door and Sampangi lost his balance. He came under the wheels of the bus and was crushed to death.On August 19 morning, a 37-year-old software engineer came under the wheels of a BMTC bus at Sanjaynagar.The victim, Roshan, was heading to a hotel for breakfast on a two-wheeler. When he tried to overtake a car from the right side near Vaibhav junction, he lost control and came under the moving bus.The Sadashiva Nagar police have registered a case of death due to negligence and rash and negligent driving against bus driver.
