Kannada writer and activist Devanur Mahadeva has written an open letter to Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, urging him to implement the recommendations of the H.N. Nagamohan Das Commission report on internal reservation, which have been made “in keeping with the spirit of the Supreme Court judgement on the issue.”

Cabinet meeting

The letter comes ahead of a special meeting of the State Cabinet on Tuesday to discuss the report, which was submitted to the government on August 4. Dalit left and right communities have been divided on the report, with the former demanding its implementation at the earliest and the latter calling it “unscientific.”

In his letter, Mr. Mahadeva says that he writes amid “confusion and anguish” that implementation of the report might be pushed indefinitely because of the controversies surrounding it. With the government recruitment process linked to internal reservation implementation, the writer has expressed apprehension that postponing it might lead to thousands of youths being denied employment.

The letter also batted for raising the reservation for the Scheduled Castes (SC) and the Scheduled Tribes (ST), which he argues could put an end to some of the confusion.
