Police sounded alert in the downstream areas of the Krishna river as the flood level has been rising. The police and revenue officials have arranged boats to shift people out of low-lying areas.

Due to heavy inflows from the upstream projects, the irrigation authorities released more than 5.5 lakh cusecs by lifting all the 70 crest gates of the Prakasam Barrage on Thursday.

“Vehicular movement between A.P. and Telangana was stopped for some time as Kattaleru and other streams were overflowing on the roads. Traffic was allowed after the water level receded on Thursday,’‘ said NTR Commissionerate Deputy Commissioner of Police K.M. Maheswara Raju, who visited the low-lying bridges at Vinagadapa, Penuganchiprolu and other places.

“We request the villagers not to cross the submerged bridges and roads,’‘ the DCP said.

Krishna district Superintendent of Police R. Gangadhar Rao, who reviewed the flood situation with Revenue, Fire and other Department officials said the police were put on high alert in Avanigadda, Mopidevi and Nagalanka mandals as the water level was rising.
