ince I started my first job I have been saving into a Help to Buy Isa with Halifax. Over the years I managed to build a pot of £15,000, and this is a lot of money to me.
I live outside London so I can use the Isa only to buy a property worth up to £250,000. This year I realised the product was useless because we live in Sussex and the type of house we want to buy will cost a lot more than that.
I decided to transfer my money to a stocks and shares Isa that I hold with the investment platform Fidelity. I was told I would need to move to a standard Halifax cash Isa before the money could be sent to Fidelity. I didn’t mind doing so if it ensured my money was kept in the tax-free wrapper, so I moved my £15,000.
I put in a transfer request with Fidelity and a week later noticed that my money had disappeared from my Halifax account. I was alarmed when it didn’t appear in my Fidelity account, but Halifax said not to worry because the funds were being sent by cheque.
