Karateka made a promise to her grandmother and delivered on it in Chengdu on Friday to win Hong Kong’s first medal at the Games
Grace Lau won Hong Kong’s first gold in Chengdu, and second in World Games history, on Friday, but she said afterwards it was a win that fulfilled a promise to her grandmother, who died on the eve of the event, and one that would “make her proud once again”.
“Two weeks before I traveled to The World Games, my grandma passed away,” Lau said on her Instagram account.
“I promised her that I would become World Champion and win at The World Games and the World Championships.
“I know she was with me today, she truly was. I’m happy that I can make her proud once again.”
