SYDNEY -- Australia's trade chief credited "cool and calm" diplomacy after the country emerged from U.S. President Donald Trump's tariff deadline with the minimum 10% levy on most of its goods, despite a push from some in Washington for a higher rate.
Minister for Trade Don Farrell said he had been told of the outcome by U.S. Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick in a phone call on Friday morning, in which the senior U.S. official described some of the dynamics behind the U.S. president's decision.
