The platinum jubilee celebrations of the Mar Ivanios College in the capital began on Monday with a procession. Kadakampally Surendran, MLA, flagged off the procession in the presence of college Principal Meera George, Bursar Thomas Kayyalakkal, former Chief Secretary K.Jayakumar who is the president of the Alumni Association of Mar Ivanios College (AMICOS), actor Nandhu and others. Mr.Jayakumar also inaugurated an exhibition in the college campus showcasing major milestones in the college’s 75 year history.
Addressing a press conference, Mr.Jayakumar said that the platinum jubilee celebrations will also be an occasion for a get-together of the college’s alumni spread out across the world on August 2 and 3. Cardinal Baselios Cleemis will preside over the public meeting to be inaugurated by Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on August 3 at 5 p.m. One of the highlights of the celebrations will be a business summit on August 3 at 9 a.m., in which former students who have made a mark in the industries sector will interact with the current students. A vintage car rally, featuring vintage cars owned by the former students of the college, will also be held on August 2. A flea market will also be on at the campus for two days from August 2 onwards.
