Northern districts and some of the central districts can expect isolated heavy rainfall this week, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicated on Sunday.

Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod are on yellow alert for isolated heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm in 24 hours) till June 26, a Sunday evening weather update said.

Thrissur, Ernakulam, and Alappuzha are on yellow alert on June 25 and June 26. Kerala has so far received normal rainfall for the period from June 1 to June 22, according to the IMD. This year, the southwest monsoon had set in over Kerala on May 24. Since then, weeks of heavy rainfall have been interspersed with drier spells.
