The Chittoor police have stepped up a special drive targeting drunk driving and alcohol consumption in public. Deputy SP (Chittoor) T. Sainath and I-Town Inspector Maheswar conduct the checks over the past two days, during which they arrested 19 individuals, including seven persons for driving drunk and twelve others for consumption of liquor in public.
Mr. Maheswar said all the arrestees were produced before the Second-Class Magistrate in Chittoor court, which fined the violators a total of ₹82,000.
He said such offenses pose a serious threat to public safety. “Drunk driving not only endangers your life but also puts the lives of others at risk. The special drive would be a continuous process and the violators would not be spared. Apart from legal prosecution, the police would not hesitate to confiscate the vehicles in repeat offenses,” he said. The police officer appealed to the public to follow traffic rules.
