There are few bag makers with as fascinating a history or as long a list of celebrated designs as Gucci. The collections that have emerged from the Italian designer have been some of the most influential in recent memory. The GG Marmont is one of these designs. Though it was introduced in 2016, it has historical roots — the double G logo hardware was dreamt up in the 1960s, referencing the initials of Guccio Gucci, and the family’s tradition of giving the eldest child a name that starts with G. All the bags also feature a nifty sliding chain that helps it transition easily from day to night. Since its release the GG Marmont has been a bestseller — in 2018 it was the most purchased bag on Net-a-Porter.
This year, the GG Marmont collection is back, reissued with a host of fresh elements, including a slender pocket at the back of the medium and larger versions and a variety of new colours from eye-catching lime green to summery lavender. Though, rest assured, the bags’ leathers are as ultra-soft as ever.
