The preliminary investigations judge of the Bologna Court Salvatore Romito has sent to trial, on charges of aggravated murder, 63-year-old Leonardo Magri, accused of killing his wife Daniela Gaiani, 58, found dead on September 5, 2021 in a bed in their home in Castello d'Argile, after prosecutors found that what had appeared a suicide was in fact a femicide.

Magri, defended by the lawyer Ermanno Corso, is on parole and has always declared his innocence.

The trial will begin on September 24 before the Court of Assizes presided over by Judge Fabio Cosentino.

For the prosecutor Augusto Borghini, what initially seemed like a suicide was in reality yet another femicide.

Italy is enduring a spate of murderous violence against women and girls.
