The Sub-Inspector of Police, Vitla Police Station in Dakshina Kannada, B.C. Kowshik was kept under suspension pending departmental inquiry for allegedly demanding bribe from an accused to return a favour.

A release from the Dakshina Kannada District Superintendent of Police said on June 11 that the PSI had raided a gambling activity on May 8. While those engaged in gambling fled the scene upon arrival of the police, a motorcycle was found in the place.

The PSI did not initiate any legal proceedings to seize the motorcycle; instead summoned the registered owner of the motorcycle to the police station. An audio file of the PSI demanding bribe to release the motorcycle through a third person went viral on social media. Consequently, the department has kept him under suspension, police said.
