Former President Joe Biden allegedly tried to conceal his son Beau’s deteriorating condition while the younger Biden served as Delaware’s attorney general, according to a new book published this week.
CNN’s Jake Tapper and Axios’ Alex Thompson, the co-authors of “Original Sin,” which details an alleged cover-up of the former president’s declining health to pursue reelection, report that Biden and his family publicly claimed Beau had a “clean bill of health,” despite knowing the seriousness of his glioblastoma diagnosis, according to ABC News.
Beau Biden died of brain cancer in May 2015 at the age of 46, five months after leaving office. He served as Delaware’s attorney general from 2007 to 2015 but chose to not pursue a third term.
Tapper and Thompson’s book claims the younger Biden experienced challenges in his final year in office, including speech difficulties, and still did not give up his post. He also pursued experimental treatments at hospitals around the country during his last year as state attorney general using the alias George Lincoln, the book says, according to Axios.
The secrecy around his condition also reportedly vexed his wife, Hallie, who favored sharing more details with the public.
