King Charles III has written privately to Joe Biden after the former US president was diagnosed with an aggressive form of prostate cancer, Buckingham Palace has said.
The monarch, who is still undergoing his own treatment for an undisclosed cancer, will have expressed his support and sent his best wishes to Mr Biden.
Charles hosted the then-president for tea and talks at Windsor Castle in July 2023. They also had a meeting during the Cop26 summit in Glasgow in November 2021.
Mr Biden also attended Queen Elizabeth II's funeral in September 2022, but he was not present for Charles's Coronation in May 2023 - with his wife Jill going instead.
Mr Biden's office said he was seen by doctors last week after experiencing urinary symptoms. Tests revealed the cancer had spread to his bones, and he was formally diagnosed on Friday.
