A cyclist has died after being hit by a car while he was commuting to work, police have confirmed.

Dorset Police were called to Bridport Road, Dorchester, at 7.35am on Friday, May 16, after reports of a crash involving a white Fiat Panda and a bicycle.

Emergency services at the scene found the cyclist - a man in his 50s - in a 'serious condition' and airlifted him to Southampton Hospital.

He was pronounced dead in hospital last night.

Following the collision, streets surrounding the incident were cordoned off with tape as a heavy police presence descended on the area.
