A cyclist who smashed into a woman's skull while riding on the wrong side of the road has been fined a 'paltry and insulting' £500.

Matthew Thornley, 45, was doing laps with a group of Club Peloton riders before he tried to overtake a car in Regent's Park.

Mere moments later he smashed into 53-year-old Paola Dos Santos, who was crossing the road, rendering her unconscious.

As a result of being mowed down by the cyclist, Ms Dos Santos suffered fractures to her jawbone, cheekbone, eye socket and fractured sinuses.

The mother-of-three did not know the director of an architecture firm was riding in her direction as he was on the wrong side of the Hanover Terrace road in May, 2024.
