The Vatican said in its daily bulletin on Thursday that Pope Leo XIV has made his first appointment since being elected the leader of the Catholic Church a week ago.

It said the American-Peruvian pontiff has appointed Father Miguel Ángel Contreras Llajaruna, S.M., episcopal vicar for Consecrated Life of the diocese of Callao and superior of the América del Sur district of the Marist Fathers, as auxiliary bishop of the diocese of Callao, Peru, assigning him the titular see of Babra.
