President Sergio Mattarella on Saturday stressed the need to complete the process of European integration as he visited the Aosta Valley to mark of 80th anniversary of the resistance and liberation of the mountainous region on the French border at the end of World War II and its and declaration of autonomy.
"Mountain people know more than anyone that, when there are emergencies such as natural disasters, an incomplete building cannot stand," Mattarella said at the University of Valle d'Aosta.
"There is a risk of not surviving.
"The world is full of emergency conditions, major global difficulties.
"The European edifice must be completed because it cannot remain incomplete for long, because it will not withstand the impact of the events in international life".
