Iran on Wednesday claimed its attacks on US forces in Jordan killed a “large number” of American personnel, a claim Washington rejected by reporting no casualties. The Islamic Revolutionary Guards also said it struck US bases in Erbil with missiles and drones, while Bahrain said its air defences intercepted Iranian drones.

The exchange of attacks is the first flare-up in violence between the two sides since late July.
