Stripe and Advent have reportedly abandoned their $50 billion leveraged buyout of PayPal, marking the end of one of the year's most anticipated deals.

Stripe and Advent International withdrew their $53 billion bid for PayPal after the board rejected the $60.50 per share offer as insufficient.

The digital payments giant had soared in mid-July on initial takeover buzz.

It would have been the largest fintech acquisition ever.
