Maharashtra Health Minister Prakash Abitkar said fire audits are mandatory for both government and private hospitals, following the fire that killed three newborns at Amravati District Women’s Hospital. He said a technical investigation will determine the cause of the fire and whether there were lapses in materials, permissions or safety measures, adding that action will be taken against those found responsible.

The fire broke out in the neonatal intensive care unit around 3.15 am when a ventilator sparked, an official said.

A fire in Amravati hospital's NICU left infants covered in ash, as parents criticize the administration for inadequate safety measures.
